Most stud colts need to be gelded, regardless of color pattern.

Horse ads are everywhere online from dedicated horse classified websites to horse forums and social groups, and it's hard not to notice the large number of downright bad horse ads. These aren't just Craigslist ads anymore kids ..

“Natural Born Killer”

Bad horse ads, horses are often kept for breeding based on coat color, even if they have a genetic disorder.Though he might have an unassuming barn name (Scotty) .. don't let that fool you.

This stud comes with the following features –

  • In Pasture Condition
  • Big Hip
  • Short Back
  • Thin Neck
  • Wide Stifles
  • Was imprinted as a foal, but hasn't gone anywhere or done anything since.
  • HYPP Positive!

So if you're after a pasture-breeding stallion who'll produce a lot of palominos and pass his genetic disorder to 50% of his offspring, this might be the boy for you!

“Ima Domino Effect”

Yes, yes you are a domino effect but probably not in the way imagined by the person who named you. I can already see the domino effect that's going to happen if he is kept as a breeding stallion .. Hopefully the purchaser has some brains, gelds him and develops a great working relationship with him.

Bad horse ads, if it has color it should be bred! Pinto stud colt for sale.

But, in the meantime here are the highlights from this young colt's advertisement.

  • GORGEOUS black/white frame overo
  • Well bred
  • Will be a tall guy
  • Will be worth a lot once he's broke
  • Breed him for gorgeous color! [because you won't be breeding him for superior conformation .. ]

Seriously, Henry doesn't want to be someone's stallion prospect. Henry wants to go on play dates with his human and socialize with the herd year-round. I can already see little Henry all grown up and trekking down the trail, packing off to some fun show and swimming in the river with his best pals.

“Versary Moon Maiden”

This one time I was at the gym, on the treadmill where you're force-fed 20 tv screens at one time, and the one in front of me happened to be playing one of those 16 and pregnant “reality” shows. I don't watch tv normally so wasn't really familiar with this, but it was an entire show of car-crash moments. You don't want to look, you know it's going to be god-awful, but you're still blown away when the inevitable happens.

Bad horse ads, the logic behind breeding animals is often severely flawed. That's how this bad horse ad reads, just one mind-blowing OMFG moment after another.

  • Broodmare ONLY, no training.
  • Draft cross at her side (sired by a draft cross as well)
  • Positive for LWO (that's lethal white overo, it's genetic)
  • Has not been tested for any of the other half-dozen possible genetic disorders that she could be carrying around (and passing along)
  • Has been bred a TON and any which way they could breed her!
  • Either she, or her foals, are referred to as nice sporthorses ..

For a minute I questioned whether this ad was a joke, but unfortunately I think it's quite serious indeed.

So, let me get this straight .. you're breeding a mare with a known genetic disorder with zero history of her trainability/rideability/anything-but-foaling-ability to just about any stallion you can get your hands on (though there seems to be a particular affinity for the draft-crosses .. or that's the stallion they can get their hands on for free/cheap) because she's a grulla overo pinto?

Yep, sounds like a winning combination if I ever heard of one!

Is there a bad horse ad you'd like to see featured in an Episode? Tell me about it.

  1. Sadly, I have well-meaning friends that make me crazy with this stuff all the time! If it has ovaries or testes, why not breed it? And, by all means, lets breed it at 2 or 3, so it can start earning it’s keep before it’s rideable! Oh, and if you decide it’s not good enough for you to breed, even once … just sell it to someone else for the purposes of reproduction! Sigh …
