Can you love horses and the environment equally? It doesn't take long to realize that horses can be very destructive to pastures, soil and ground water. Is it possible to keep your horses happy while also minimizing the damage to your property, encouraging the health of your pastures and local wildlife?
Eco-Friendly Since 1997
Alayne Blickle created Horses for Clean Water in 1997 and has teaching environmentally sensitive horse keeping practices through classes, workshops, demonstration farms, farm tours, and individual consultations since.
Based out of the Pacific Northwest, Horses for Clean Water also makes available an online newsletter, The Green Horse as well as other educational materials for those looking to see what eco-friendly horse keeping is about before they jump in with both feet.
I've attended a few workshops and visited demonstration farms when I was still living in Seattle, WA; the information is diverse and motivational. The results are truly amazing if you are at first accustomed to overgrazed pastures, mucky pasture runoff, mud lots, etc. If you're looking for long-term, fully sustainable solutions for your pasture, paddock and property issues they've already done the heavy lifting for you.
